Running was part of my daily routine during my time in the Army, but when I left 10 years ago it was difficult to find motivation to get my trainers on again. After settling back in Harrogate, I was aware of a local running club that used to meet at that time in Starbeck. I went along to the club for a run one night and discovered a group of people who were thoroughly enthusiastic about running – after a couple of sessions I rediscovered my running mojo. Since being with the club (around six years) I have competed in various 10k and 10 mile races, and even managed to run the London Marathon earlier this year in under 4 hours. I have also proudly represented Nidd Valley at The Great Knaresborough Bed Race on two occasions. I try to fit my running in and around a busy family life, working shifts, cycling, sleeping, and the occasional peruse on the web for that elusive bargain ‘classic sports car’.
