Weekly Update: Baltic

(TLDR. Tuesday’s intervals are down on Springfield Avenue, with sessions at both 6pm and 7pm, and our Thursday club run takes us up Cold Bath Road. On Thursday there is also the chance of an off-road head torch run round the reservoirs. On Sunday we have PECO #2 at Temple Newsam and on Saturday the ladies are out for their Secret Santa Run).

Well the big freeze has set in here at Nidd Valley House. It’s absolutely baltic and we’re doing all we can to keep warm. Dave has his woolly hat on, Sylvia is hugging a hot water bottle, and we’ve had to thread Chairman Mike’s mittens through his coat sleeves so he won’t lose this pair. We’re doing our best to keep warm and hope that you are too.  So let’s not hang around, but let’s keep moving with a look at the week ahead.

The Week Ahead

On Tuesday, we have the last session of the hill intervals and we’ll be concluding proceedings on Springfield Avenue. We’ll be meeting at the a Hockey Club at 6pm and 7pm and jogging down to the warm in the carpark outside the Harrogate Borough Council, where the sessions will kick off at quarter past the hour.

Things get a bit interesting on Thursday, as Emma Kicks is leading an off road run round Swinsty and Fewston Reservoirs. Meet at 6.45pm at the Blubberhouses carpark and be good to run for 7pm. The run will be about 10km when all is said and done, and you’ll most certainly need your headtorch.

If you don’t fancy joining the reservoir dogs, they’ll be a normal Thursday club run from the Hockey Club. Meet upstairs in the bar and be good to run at 7pm. The route this week is Cold Bath Road. Run from the club and onto Skipton Road and down Kings Road. Pass by the Crown Hotel and up Cold Bath Road. You can cut short and head back to the club along the Stray, or you can continue round Pannal Ash Road and Green Lane to M&S. Head back to the club past St Aidan’s School. Drinks and crisps in the bar afterwards.

On Saturday, Sarah Chalmers is leading the Ladies Secret Santa Run. I’m afraid that this is for the ladies only so, if you have testicles, you’ll need to make alternative arrangements. Please have a look at the emails from Sarah for all the details.

On Sunday, things get a lot more serious with the next in the PECO series. This is very much a three line whip for attendance, so don’t go slinking off to do another race (yeah, we’re talking to you Fingers Harris). This race is held at Temple Newsam, with the senior race at 11am and the junior races from 10am. I’d suggest setting off in good time as it can take an age to get through the entrance gate and parked-up.

Results

It’s been a quiet old week on the racing front at Nidd Valley House. There hasn’t been any racing so far as I can see, but I do note that Martin Luxton was omitted from last week’s results. I should tell you that Martin completed the Dalton Park 10k near Seaham. Although complaining that the course was actually 6.7 miles, Martin completed the run in 57.30 and claimed first MV70 prize in the process. Well done to you, Martin!

Having a quick look at parkrun, we had the hoard at Harrogate, Fountains and Conyngham Hall,  we had John Mallet at Westmill, the Robinsons at Wetherby, Niamh Baxter at Erskine, Emma at Whinlatter and – claiming the prize for the furthest away Nidder – Rob Northfield was sweltering in the heat in Singapore. No wisdom this week. Thick as mince, the lot of us.

See you around and keep warm.
