Knaresborough Crag Rat Run

This was the next short race of the club champs, and it was a great turnout from Nidd to support our friends the Knaresborough Striders. There was much discussion beforehand over the matter of trail or road shoes for this one, but trail shoes seemed to be the preferred option as the mud was ever present. Matt Wilkinson was first back for Nidd and 5th overall with a time of 30:12, with Alex Patrickson in a close 6th in 30:31. Martin Lofthouse also managed to finish in the top ten with a time of 31:36, with Jamie Dilasser next in 34:13. Ben Baird was next over the line for Nidd in a time of 35:32, followed by James Cook in 36:32, and Maurice Kelly in 36:44. Then came John Mitton in 37:03, Brian Hainsworth, Mark Armstrong, and Phil Ventress all finished within seconds of each other. Their times were 37:26, 37:31 and 37:32 respectively. Dave Seaman was next to finish in a time of 40:24, followed by first Nidd lady finisher Nadine Wilkinson. Nadine had a cracking run and finished in time of 41:51, and she was closely followed by Christine Jones who crossed the line in 42:16. Christine deserves special mention due to the fact she was running with extreme pain after a recent visit to the dentist for some root canal work – we all hope she is feeling a bit better today! Hannah Peagram was next over the line in 42:48, then Christina Taylor in 43:04, Sarah Hughan in 43:53, Marcos Montana 43:55, Moira McTague 44:54, Debbie Dilasser 45:10. Carolyn Easton was next to finish for Nidd in 47:41, and was just ahead of Robert Hill who finished in 47:42, and Lynsey Barraclough in 47:49. The excellent performance by Nidd was completed by Ewa Scott in 48:09, Kirsty O’Donnell 51:24 and Graham Hyde in 52:14. Great running by all!

Hodgson Brothers Mountain Relay Race

It’s highly unlikely that there was any discussion about what shoes to wear for this event – trail shoes all the way for this one. This team event consisting of 4 legs, starting and finishing in Patterdale, includes some quality climbs and stunning views – if the weather holds up. As its The Lake District, the weather is never guaranteed, and this was confirmed by the 8 runners from Nidd who took part in this year’s event at the weekend. Each leg was completed by a pair of fell running Nidd’s, and here is what they got up to:

Leg 1: Patterdale to Hartsop 6.7 km / 440 m – Emma David and Lee Welsby – finished in 1:03:53

Leg 2: Hartstop to Kirkstone 11 km / 890 m – Andy Harris and Edoardo Piano – finished in 1:07:16

Leg 3: Kirkstone to Sykeside 7.5 km / 570 m – Carol Morgan and Simon Franklin (who suits NVRR colours more than that other club 😉 ) – finished in 1:06:00

Leg 4: Sykeside to Patterdale 11 km / 900 m – Cath Barber and Fell Running Phil Robinson – finished in 1:04:03.

I believe the some of the routes were changed at the last minute because of the awful weather but it was still a sterling effort from NVRR, finishing in 67th place overall.

Well done to everybody who ran at the weekend and have a great week.
