Tell us your name. Bec Carman
How and when did you first start running? I started running with a group of friends nearly 10 years ago but only very casually, I gave up when we moved and they were no longer round the corner, I properly took up running about 3 years ago after the birth of my third child…..I needed some time alone out of the house!
What brought you to Nidd Valley? I was very nearly a Strider…..but decided on Nidd as one of my oldest friends is a Nidder and after a number of ‘trial’ runs started to get to know a few people and realised how lovely you all are!
When did you join Nidd Valley? Jan 2018
What is your favourite running music? Genre or specific tracks? I don’t normally listen to music while I’m running as lots of races don’t allow it so I don’t want to become reliant on it.
What is your favourite food before and after running? On a race day I always have porridge and two bananas. After a race I like salt and vinegar crisps and a coke! Or if its a race where there is a long journey home a McDonalds be almost definitely be consumed! For normal runs I just make sure I drink enough that day and have a glass of milk when I get home.
What is your best running tip that you would like to share with us? Vaseline your toes, always carry a hanky and use chewing gum to keep your mouth lubricated.
What is your proudest moment in your running career? Completing the Yorkshire marathon in 2017, I had done all my training on my own and hadn’t told anyone I was doing it until the week before (apart from close friends), it was a big deal for me.
What are your running goals? I have a few goals floating around in my head as far times for certain distances but my main goal is to keep running, I want to still be a runner when I’m an old lady.
What event are you training for at the moment? Nothing! I would like to get into more adventure type runs though and am thinking of doing a LDWA (Long Distance Walkers Association) event with a friend soon.
