Tell us your name. Sylvia Morten
How and when did you first start running? I suddenly realised, on my 45th birthday, that if I didn’t do some form of exercise I wouldn’t be fit enough to enjoy my later life. At the time I couldn’t run a bath so it took me 3 attempts to complete Day 1 of a couch to 5k programme of running a minute and walking a minute for 20 minutes!
What brought you to Nidd Valley? I approached Geoff at Park Run and I asked him if the club had a section for the more mature lady who wasn’t very good but would really like to improve and he said “yes, come on down”
When did you join Nidd Valley? January 2017
What is your favourite running music? Genre or specific tracks? I don’t listen to music, I like to just let random thoughts drift into my head and if it gets really tough I count to a 100 in 5 blocks of 20
What is your favourite food before and after running? Pre-run a big bowl of porridge or peanut butter sandwich if its a later run, and post run a banana
What is your best running tip that you would like to share with us? When it gets tough look up to the sky, it invariably makes you smile, it lifts your chest and lets you get some more oxygen in
What is your proudest moment in your running career? Completing the London Marathon in 2011 3 weeks before my 50th birthday
What are your running goals? To manage hills better
What event are you training for at the moment? Tadcaster 10 miles
