Tell us your name. | Carol ‘Irish carol’ Morgan |
How and when did you first start running? | I smoked heavily in my 20’s, hit my 30’s and decided I needed to get fit. I started off doing 1 minute run, 1 minute walk on a treadmill. I managed about 3minutes first time, but vowed it wouldn’t beat me. |
What brought you to Nidd Valley? | I lived close by. Much more than that I was welcomed in and found a big bunch of friends. |
When did you join Nidd Valley? | Approx 12ish years ago |
What is your favourite running music? Genre or specific tracks? | I never run with music, when I started running outside I work in intensive care, running was an escape from that intense environment. I love most old 90’s indie, The Stone Roses, Happy Monday’s, The Cult are particular favourites. I get watery eyes whenever I hear ‘eye of a tiger’ because it reminds me of my first marathon in Connemara. I ran a whole Ultra with the birdie song running through my head once, it wasn’t my finest race! |
What is your favourite food before and after running? | Before=anything veggie, during=anything veggie, after=anything veggie. I have a huge appetite…. like really big. |
What is your best running tip that you would like to share with us? | Never say can’t. Sometimes not yet, sometimes not this year, but never can’t. I think we continually underestimate ourselves…. I love to challenge me. |
What is your proudest moment in your running career? | The first time I ran the whole way on a 5K Race For Life. I felt invincible and it felt great, I still get that same kick from running. |
What are your running goals? | To run in the hills until I’m very old. |
What event are you training for at the moment? | Grand raid de Pyrenees, a 100 mile race |
