Christine Jones

Tell us your name. Christine Jones
How and when did you first start running? 1979, yes that long ago! My final year at school when most girls discover romance and stop any form of exercise. I had always been an active kid but lacked the confidence to race so I was a late starter. Ironically, running helped with my confidence as a youngster and as an adult I find it helps with any stress and puts most things in perspective.
What brought you to Nidd Valley? Moving to Harrogate in 2013, I wanted to meet people and joining a running club seemed an obvious way to do that. NVRR gave me the warmest welcome and seemed the most friendly.
When did you join Nidd Valley? Autumn 2014
What is your favourite running music? Genre or specific tracks? I’ve never listened to music whilst running. I prefer to listen to my breathing when I’m on my own but much prefer group running and chatting.
What is your favourite food before and after running? Porridge with honey before a race and after a race a well earned glass of anything alcoholic, pizza, chips, food of any kind really.
What is your best running tip that you would like to share with us? Most running is about mind over matter, believe in yourself and remember some running at any pace for any distance is better than nothing.
What is your proudest moment in your running career? 1984 aged 21 years. UK Police National Cross Country 1st place. Same year National 1500m 1st place in a new record of 4 mins 31 secs and 1st in 800m.
What are your running goals? To enjoy my running and to accept my limitations.
What event are you training for at the moment? To complete 7 of the road championship races.
