How and when did you first start running? | I was quite involved in middle distance running (800m) at school, so since my teenage years, although I slowly let it slide over time. I’ve been back running regularly again about 3 or 4 years now. |
What brought you to Nidd Valley? | I needed a bit of a kick up the bum! I felt I’d let my fitness deteriorate a lot and fancied getting back to something I’ve always loved. Tried a few sessions at Nidd Valley and was bowled over by how welcoming and friendly everyone was…so I signed up! |
When did you join Nidd Valley? | I’m now in to my 3rd full season, so probably about 3.5 years ago. |
What is your favourite running music? Genre or specific tracks? | I never run with music anymore as I find it a bit of a distraction, but if I had to, I’d probably go for a collection of indie/alternative stuff from early 2000s. Maybe the Strokes first album “Is this it?”. |
What is your favourite food before and after running? | Before – always porridge with almond milk and sometimes some fruit. After – if it’s a race on a Sunday, it’s got to be a roast, there’s nothing better! |
What is your best running tip that you would like to share with us? | Keep your running varied. Different places, different paces, speed sessions, stamina sessions…it stops things becoming stale and keeps it interesting. Plus, I find it has a huge impact on your overall fitness and running ability. |
What is your proudest moment in your running career? | Completing my first marathon (Manchester) earlier this year and in under my 3 hour target time. I’d always viewed a marathon as a bit of a pipe dream, so I’m super proud to say I’ve done one now. |
What are your running goals? | Just to keep enjoying and improving in my running. I try not to set too many goals, I like to just see what interests me at the time and go for it! |
What event are you training for at the moment? | Currently, the Yorkshire marathon in October, with lots of shorter races thrown in along the way. |
