Amongst the excitement of this weekend’s Awards Dinner, Northern XCs and anything else you’re all doing, please don’t forget that the first race in the Nidd 2019 Fell Champs is next weekend from Appletreewick, which is quickly becoming one of Nidd’s second homes. It’s a new race so goodness only knows what to expect, but in true fell running tradition it’s sure to be fun.
Date/time: Saturday 2nd February at 3pm (registration from 1pm), so you can still get your ParkRun fix.
Registration and parking: New Inn (t’other pub), Appletreewick BD23 6DA
Start and finish: Low Hall Farm, just down the road.
Distance/climb: 4.7 miles with 890 feet of climb (BS in fell running parlance). It covers some of the ground we ran back in Nidd’vember.
Entry: on day only at £10, which is a fair old amount for a fell race but does include tea and cake, a contribution to the Fell Rescue team and an invite to the organisers 40th birthday party!
Details: www.wharfedaleharriers.co.uk/events/runners-and-riders/
Essentials: Please do print off a map from the above website and it might just be worth having a head-torch to hand given the start time. As the name suggests there will be some cyclists also taking part. Technically, if the weather is poor you could be asked to wear/carry full waterproof body cover (that’s including trousers), hat, gloves, whistle, map, compass. If the weather is good it’s likely the organiser will be OK with a lot less kit.
Beginner friendly: Probably.
Can’t wait.
