Fell Championships 2022

Good morning Nidds,

Fast on the feet of the Captain’s email with the Road Champ races here are the Fell Champ races, its been a much harder job than I anticipated, mainly because there are so many great races and choosing just a few is difficult, hats off to Phil for doing it all these years and, don’t worry Phil will be back to mark my work soon!

Just to note there are a couple of race still to be confirmed, I will update as soon as details are available. I hope you find this a good selection of races for everyone to participate in. Its 5 races to qualify for a participation badge and the qualification and champ rules details are on the website along with Phil’s handy tips for fell running.

You will see that the races all have Grades; AM/BM etc and this is based on the distance and amount of ascent over that distance so as a rule – AS races are short up and downs and races like James Herriot CM have more distance but less ascent and often on tracks, marked and with no real navigation required so great for anyone wanting to try a fell race. More details of grading, principles of felk running and other useful advice can be found on the FRA website https://www.fellrunner.org.uk

If you have any questions about fell racing of taking on your first fell race please just ask me or other club members, there are quite a few of us now who will be happy to enthuse and inform on the joys of fell running.

Details of all the races are now on the website Fell Championship (2022) so have a look and start planning. Where a race is pre-entry an email will be sent out when entries open but do keep and eye on the various website links for updates. Races in the past have mainly been entry on the day but due to the this changed.

Many thanks

Sarah (Head Girl)
