Weekly Update: The price we pay for love…

(TLDR. For those short of time…. On Tuesday, we’ve got an interval session and a club run round Hookstone Woods both leaving from the club at 7pm, and on Thursday we have a last little trip down the gorge. Saturday gives us the Rombalds Romp and Sunday the Crag Rat Run – both in the fell and road championships, respectively).

Evening folks.

I can’t pretend to ever have been a monarchist but, after today, an email of jokes and innuendo doesn’t seem the right way to scratch the itch. For what is worth, and however you might be feeling, why not come for a run with us? I’ll give you the plan for the week ahead. The other stuff, including the results, can wait for another day (even the fact that we won the Mob Match. Good news doesn’t age, I promise…).

The Week Ahead

On Tuesday, we’ve got the usual choice between intervals and a club run. As usual, both start from the Hockey Club at 7pm. Captain Sarah and Lynsey B will be leading a pyramid session (you know how it works – it starts hard, it gets harder, and then it gets easier but only when you’re exhausted). If people don’t fancy an interval session, then there will be a club run out over the Stray and through the Saints and Hookstone Woods. Feel free to come back via Leeds Road, the cricket club, or Ashville, as the mood suits you. Check in with people before you run, leave no one behind etc., you know the drill by now.

On Thursday, dare I suggest one final jaunt down the gorge? The days are surely drawing in, so I suggest we head out from the club at 7pm pronto, into the gorgel, turning left into the field and under the viaduct. Run along until you come to the first track, turn left and cross country to the Gardeners Arms. Feel free to amend and extend as you please, but be sure to be back at the club to join us for pints and a chat in the club bar afterwards. It would, as it always is, great to see you.

On Saturday, the fell runners are out to get muddy with the Romalds Romo. If you fancy covering some 1200ft over a muddy eight mile terrain, then we would love to see you out there. It’s only £8, too, so winner, winner, chicken dinner…. Have a read up and get yourself booked in. You won’t regret it:  https://tinyurl.com/36y3n998

Coming straight after, we’ve got the Knaresborough Striders Crag Rat Run on Sunday 25 Sep 2022. As they always put in a strong showing at our Guy Fawkes Event, we’d really appreciate it if you might support our local rivals as they host their annual race (even though we did beat them in the mob match).. This is only five miles and the terrain is varied and accessible. Details, comprehensively, here:: https://tinyurl.com/5eup2yax.

Word to the Wise

Given the strange day we’ve had, I leave you with the words of none other than the late Queen herself.

“Grief is the price we pay for love…”

Next week, results and all else will return. For now, just take a moment to count your blessings, and remember that you are alive and that you can run with air in your lungs. Life is good.
