Good morning Nidders,
With Sam enjoying southern Spain your email this week is brought to you by Captain Dazzler (aka Half-pint Harry).
Just a quick ‘add’ for last weeks results to mention Nigel Scaife who ran the Charlesworth Chase and is claiming first Nidder after downing a full pint!!
Headlines: With bed race training now in full flow on Tuesday we will be doing the club run from Conyngham Hall. We will meet up at 6.30 and then you have the choice of running with one of the bed race teams (various paces) or we can run the Knaresborough crag rat course. There will not be a run from hockey club on Tuesday.
On Thursday there are a couple of options for you. The club run will be through Hookstone Woods, over to Fulwith Mill Lane (where most of the committee live…) and then up to Harrogate cricket club. 7pm start.
Alternatively FRP and Emma are leading a recce of the Kettlewell anniversary fell race which takes place a week later on the 8th June. The run will start at 7pm from Kettlewell main car park. It promises to be a nice evening out at a steady pace and no one will get left behind. Please consider car sharing where possible.
Looking at the calendar there are no races during the week or this coming weekend in the club champs.
Last Tuesday saw the second race in the Harrogate & District Summer Race League. 67 runners from Nidd took to the start line to tackle the 6 mile course. I am guessing for those involved it was the first time you have ever had to run through a herd of cows in a race! Anyway, to the results. First home for the Gold & Blacks was Adam Kirk in a time of 35:41 followed in by Craig Mills (36:48) and Darren Townend (37:44). A return to fitness for Steven Turner who timed in at 43:03 holding off Brian Hainsworth (43:32), Andrew Iddon (43:37), Matt Rickard (44:00) and Jonathan Easton (44:26). Always good to see Chandra Shekar (50:27) in the club vest and he valiantly held off Ali King who came in with the same time. After that we had Phily Thompson (50:31), Chris Morris (51:14), Martin Luxton (51:31), Alison Iles (52:08), Katharine Dolman (52:09, Ian Wighton (52:22), Mike Deacon (52:43) and Paul Manning (52:53). By now the crowd of Nidds on the finish straight were vast and we gave hearty cheers to Nadene Wilkinson (57:11), Emily Wighton (57:59), Mike Shaw (58:10), Nick Smith (58:26), Nikki Brady (58:29), Guy Parker (58:56), Moira Mctague (58:57), Debbie Gibson (58:58) and Jemma Escreet (59:03). Rachel Capstick (59:21) was next back ahead of the waving Dave Seaman (1:00:15), Liz Ahmad (1:05:51), Michelle Smith (1:05:59), Graham Hyde(1:06:28) and the fantastically legginged (Is that a word!?) Sarah Gore (1:06:39). The loudest cheers of the night were reserved for Jill Hornsby (1:08:14) and Sylvia Morten (1:09:48).
It was a hot day yesterday so well done to Amy Sheppard (2:37:03), Jim Cook (2:58:25) and Emma Kicks (3:11:24) who completed the Kettlewell trail half marathon. In the Kettlewell trail 10k we had Fiona Deacon (1:18:35), Rachel Mills (1:19:56), Rebecca Ventress (1:26:16), Debbie Gibson (1:26:25), Roger Duckworth (1:31:42), Jenny Manning (1:32:15), Sarah Gore (1:44:22), Graham Hyde (1:44:22) and Sarah Chalmers (1:48:16). Well run all!
Congrats to Andy Iddon who completed his 100th parkrun yesterday at Alnwick. Look at his happy face…!!
It’s not very often you get to represent your country but Andrew Harris and Jack the dog ran for England in the furnations yesterday. Well done Andy & Jack!!
We also had Steve Newbould complete a 4 x 4 x 48 challenge, which is basically running 4 miles, every 4 hours, for 48 hours. Enjoy some sleep over the Bank Holiday Steve!
Many apologies if you have done an event and I have missed you out. Please contact either myself or Emma and we can include you in next weeks email.
Have a great rest of your day and enjoy your running in whatever shape or size it comes in.
And don’t forget, the next pop-up parkrun is…..(Yeah, right…!!)
Darren.
