Tell us your name. Helen Cook
How and when did you first start running? About 5 years ago after I had My second child. My husband was having all the fun by training for races and the gym schedules weren’t working out for me with the kids and full time work. Running seemed to offer more flexibility.
What brought you to Nidd Valley? We moved to Harrogate in 2016 from London. I was out of sync with exercise. I knew the benefits of a club from being an East London Runners club member. I wanted to get to know some new routes and start connecting with the community and getting to know people. I had Harrogate Harriers in my sights. But I was advised to join Nidd. It was friendly they said. It was also closer to home and seemingly a great choice!
When did you join Nidd Valley? It took a while as I was transferring clubs. So officially December 2016. But I started attending from the August.
What is your favourite running music? Genre or specific tracks? Anything upbeat. Faster BPMs help me run faster (for a little while at least)
What is your favourite food before and after running? Overnight oats before a race. Porridge in winter. Deliciously Ella recipes. A banana. Espresso.
What is your best running tip that you would like to share with us? Listen to your body. Rest days are important. Think about cadence. Run backwards….that’s how you should run forwards (it made sense in the training)
What is your proudest moment in your running career? Yorkshire marathon. Maybe. Or actually London parks half. As it was a PB. Any PB! And bedrace! Oh and cross country. Getting up those hills in the freezing cold and mud baths isn’t for the faint hearted!
What are your running goals? To keep running.
What event are you training for at the moment? Nothing I’m enjoying running for fun in the club and running with my dog.
