Evening Nidders,
It’s that time of year that just about makes the dark, cold and windy nights bearable… the Winter Intervals are back!
For those of you new to the club, Jeff has kindly created the attached guide. It should cover most things in there, but the basic premise of the Winter Interval sessions is to improve your stamina, strength and overall fitness. We run up and down hills, do laps of the Stray and generally try harder than we would do on a normal social run. Sometimes it does feel like hard work, but remember we’re in a big group – all experiencing it together. The commarderie and support of your fellow members really helps you to keep going, this will be my 7th year of taking part in the intervals, and I have to say it’s without doubt one of my favourite things to do at the club, and a big reason why I wanted to get into coaching.
This Tuesday, myself and Brian will be overseeing the interval session. We’re heading to Montpellier to do the well trodden hill session there. We’ve had a real explosion of new members recently so we thought heading to Montpellier, where there are a couple of options – if the numbers are high – will be the safest best. In the weeks to come, we might have to run two different sessions, to ensure that we’re not overcrowded and everyone is enhjoying the session, and staying safe. But for the timebeing though we’ll stick with just the one.
We’ll meet at the club ready to run at 7pm, or if you’d like to head straight to Montpellier please get there no later than 7.15pm, so you can take part in the warm-up.
On Thursday I thought we could do the Supermarkets run. Leaving the club we head towards the iron bridge before turning left and running laongside the railway line towards ASDA. We continue up through town to Waitrose, before crossing onto Oatlands Drive, through the showground and onto Wetherby Road. It’s then down to Freemans Corner, before heading back to the club via Morrisons and Kingsley Drive.
If you’re feeling a bit more adventourus you can head up towards M&S on Leeds Road, or if you’d like to cut it short you don’t need to run towards Sainsbury’s, instead you can skirt round the Stray, and return to the club along Slingsby Walk and Claro Road.
We’ll be running in our paced groups again, I suggest the first meeting point could be at the front of ASDA, before crossing over Bower Road.
Here’s a reminder of the paces we’ll be running:
Group 1 – if you run 5k in 23 minutes or quicker
Group 2 – if you run 5k in 26 minutes or quicker
Group 3 – if you run 5k in 29 minutes or quicker
Group 4 – if you run 5k in 30+ minutes
Onto the weekend, and I’ve got a reminder about Nidd’vember from Graham…
“Remember the Celebrating Nidd’vember run on Sunday 18 November for those not taking part in the Wensleydale Wedge. We are meeting at the Craven Arms, Appletreewick at 11am with 3 different groups and route options – 2 running groups and 1 walking group, returning to the pub for 1pm for soup and a roll for £5.00. Payable on the day or choose form the main pub menu. “
That’s all for this week, hopefully see lots of you on Tuesday night, please remember to wear your hi-vis vests.
Thanks
Dan
