Abridged Minutes 23/2/2022

Nidd Valley Road Runners committee meeting

Wednesday 23rd February 2022

Harrogate Hockey Club, Ainsty Road, Harrogate

Minutes:

Carry over from previous committee:

EA places a requirement on all clubs to meet a set of  Club Standards – committee to ensure these are completed & submitted.

Roles & responsibilities:

General discussion about roles & responsibilities of new committee members. Social media responsibilities divided amongst the group. Agreement to close Twitter as rarely used.

Bed race:

Enough interest for 3 senior teams & 1 junior team. Entries to be submitted by 28th Feb. Discussion about the condition of the 5 beds which NVRR have in storage and possibility of ‘retiring’ 1 bed after this season. Need to find a place in Knaresborough to store beds during training.

Evening League:

Race date 17th May. Mike Deacon brought the committee up to speed on tasks already completed to date. Slightly adapted route this year. Discussed the number of club members needed to marshal the course, whether some club members will be allowed to compete in the race and if so how this will be managed fairly. Also agreed subsidised Evening League entry to allow for the fact that most members will only be able to run in 4 out of the 5 races since we will be hosting one.

Summer intervals:

Emma has proposed Spring / Summer intervals to tie in with bed race training plus fell / off road training after this.

Welfare issues:

Discussion surrounding the EA rules about under 18’s running / being with the seniors. EA rules dictate that under 18’s cannot use the same changing facilities as over 18s (agreed there are enough facilities in the Hockey Club to allow for separate facilities). Under 18’s can only travel in a car if there are two adults.

Try on nights:

Sarah Staiano to lead on “Try on & Run” nights. Saucony and Puma events in the pipeline. Discussed the possibility of contacting Yorkshire Runner in Otley and coinciding this with a fell / off road training session.

AOB:

Agreement to retain £20 student rate & financial hardship rate at present, and same applies to the reduced rate from 1st Oct arrangement.

Hockey club facilities – questions raised at AGM about whether members are getting value for money from the Hockey Club. Thought that perhaps many members are not even aware of facilities, having joined during Covid when the facilities have not been open. Need to raise awareness of changing facilities and bar. This led to discussion about the meeting point in the car park and agreement was for the ‘muster point’ to remain where it is. Agreement to monitor whether the Hockey Club / facilities are fit for purpose now the Club is larger.

Easter egg hunt run Thurs 14th April 2022 – from hockey club will be arranged.

More coaches needed to help be run leaders. Club to fund Coaches & Leaders courses in return for small commitment of time in leading runs / assisting with leading runs.
