Nidd Valley Road Runners committee meeting
Wednesday 14th September 2022 730pm

Attendees: Emma David (EK), Dave Seaman (DS), Darren Townend (DT), Mike Deacon (MD), Sam
Fugill (SF,) Jane Evans (JE), Sylvia Morten (SM), Philippa Wilkinson (PW), Sarah Chalmers (SC), Sarah
Staiano (SS), Martin Lofthouse (ML)
Apologies:
Minutes from previous meeting:
Standing items:

Guy Fawkes – (SF) sold out, a few transfers coming in, t-shirts ordered, castle have confirmed
that the parking will be free if not using the main car park (which now has parking charges).
Marshals should not park in the main car park. Marshal plan all fine. Pizza as usual at Hockey
Club after. Proposal not to do letter drops, possibly do posters.

● Junior report – (ML) Training restarted on 12 th Sept. PW to ask Dave Prince to change
contact on the junior page so that the enquiries go to Michelle Beaumont. There have been
a couple of enquiries concerning children in juniors who would like to be affiliated /
members of the NVRR but can’t attend Monday training sessions because of other
commitments. They don’t want to have to pay the junior fees as this is not cost effective
when they only want the affiliation & won’t benefit from the coaching. There is nothing in
the constitution that says they can’t be part of the senior club.. If the junior section will not
offer non-training membership it was agreed that in theory they can pay & be affiliated
through the senior club but guidelines need writing and agreeing before we can open this
up. Proposal would be £20 fee in line with unwaged membership.

Membership report (EK) 209 members. Sylvia & EK to liaise re
affiliations/invoices/payments.

New agenda items:

Track sessions (MB) – Research has shown that University of York track is £60 a session.
Possibly email out & ask if people are interested then book, with a small monetary donation
to cover some of the cost. Leeds track – can turn up and pay, can ring & see if there is space
& pay individually. Decision to hold arranging track sessions over to next season due to the
amount of things in the calendar for the remainder of the year.

Northern Athletics affiliation fees – these would be approximately £450. Club Captains have
decided this doesn’t represent good value.

Winter intervals – club member has asked if there will be a 6pm option for sessions (which
will be starting after Guy Fawkes) EK says there will be a 6pm session offered if there are
enough coaches available.

Mob match – SM enquired over expected expenses. No expenses are forecast other than the
engraving of the trophy as no post run gathering has been arranged. Brief discussion held
about whether Knaresborough Striders are still buying into the event.

NVRR badges – Moira has 3 sets of badges to design. Last season XC badges not yet made.

Plogging event – Decision to hold over to next year as nights are starting to get dark.

● Parking – concerns raised that recently the car park is full due to other events, both Hockey
Club events & high school events. Concerns aired over possible accident risks. This raises the
question whether the Hockey Club is still meeting NVRR needs, especially as it’s costing
£1,600pa.

Reminder that membership fee drops to £25 for after 1 st Oct joiners. Should let new /
interested members know.

Recovery runs – SS / Moira considering the option of advertised recovery run on Tuesday
after racing. SF suggests describing this as “if you are doing a recovery run, why not come &do it with the club?” rather than advertise a set recovery run group.

Local club races – local clubs such as Wetherby, Harrogate Harriers, and Dragons have really
struggled to fill their races. Suggested that where possible the Evening League clubs should
encourage others to do their races, and include them in their championships and in doing so
show support of other Clubs. Committee agreed.

● PECO – SS & DT went to the PECO committee meeting. Each race has a host club that
organises the race & has a support club to help. Since it would be difficult to source a venue
and host a race SS & DT has volunteered NVRR to be a support club and give 10 marshals to
support the race on 22 nd January 2023. Marshals would be expected to help mark the course
and marshal. Committee agreed that this was a good idea. SC to take The Stoop fell race out
of the fell championships as this clashes with one of the proposed PECO race dates.

Member formally requests that Yorkshire Cross Country & Northern Cross Country
Championships are kept out of our Championships due to inequalities in race lengths.
Member to be invited to make representation at the AGM with regards to the Run Equal
Pledge being entered into the constitution this way the membership as a whole can make
the decision.

AOB: EK says that there have been suggestions that the Knaresborough Round may be used for the
Relay next year instead of the Harrogate Ringway.

Next committee meeting date – 26 th October.
