Here at Nidd Valley, although running and racing is at the heart of all we do, we believe in giving back to those around us too. Taking care of our community and local area is high on our agenda and always has been. Here are some of the ways we have helped give something back.
Donations and Charity Support
Over recent years we have given the following amounts to local organisations and those that have benefited club members for a number of years.
2020 – £200 Longlands Common – in support of creating a community woodland in our local area.
2019 – £200 Knaresborough parkrun – towards the purchase of a defibrillator
2018 – £128 Harrogate parkrun – purchase of new volunteer hi viz tabards.
Stepping up for HDHCC
A number of Nidd Valley members took part in a steps challenge to help raise funds for Harrogate District Hospital Community Charity in 2021.
#RunAndTalkWeek
We recently supported England Athletics’ #RunAndTalkWeek which highlighted the benefits of running for mental health with a social run with ice breaking historical facts from points of interest around our chosen run route. Thanks to our club member and tour guide Nick Smith for enlightening us with these and leading the tour.
Plogging
Plogging has become an annual event that all of our club members can lend a hand with.
We use one of our social club run nights to combine picking up litter with jogging (plogging) around the streets and local areas close to our club headquarters.
We received positive feedback from local residents and collected many bags of litter from the paths and streets which we then disposed of safely.
Volunteering
parkrun takeovers
We regularly host parkrun takeovers where we supply the volunteers to make our local Harrogate parkrun event happen. Every parkrun relies solely on volunteers each week and this gives valuable support to a free event that many of us like to take part in.
