Hi all –
Results
The big congratulations of the week go to Simon Franklin who quietly sneaked off to the Lake District and completed the Bob Graham Round in the 24 hour time limit that the challenge demands. This 65 mile or so (fell runners are often a tad vague when it comes to mileage) run is a tour of the 42 highest Lakeland Peaks and considered the ultimate test of stamina, strength and determination in that strange world that is English fell running. It really is a jaw-droppingly, staggeringly, immense achievement as anyone who has attempted to run up even one Lakeland Peak will attest. Simon is a second-claim member with Nidd, spending most of his time running with Horsforth Fellandale, but with an achievement like that under his belt, we’re more than happy to claim him as one of our own. Congratulations, Simon. You are an inspiration.
News just in! – Nidd Valley’s very own Gallagher Brothers, Matt Wilkinson and Jamie Dilasser, have completed the Manchester Marathon in 3:02 and 3:05 respectively. I couldn’t even dream of running at that pace – well done to you both.
North of the border, Jane Hill completed the 10 mile Great Edinburgh Run in a spectacular 1:36:42. It’s what they call ‘undulating’ up there, too, so that’s a cracking time , Jane.
I gather that a herd of Nidds went off to tackle the Meanwood Valley Trail Race. Final results are yet to emerge, but I hear on the grapevine that Team Manning stormed the gig, with Paul coming home in 1:01:04 and Jenny in 1:13:32. Nice work, folks.
Nine Nidds tackled the challenging Reeth 20k on Sunday. Team Deacon led the club home with 1:44:38 for Mike and 1:56:28 for Fiona, followed by Rob Snow (1:59:16), Emma David (2.02:59), Christine Jones (2:06:56), Sarah Chalmers (2:27:16), Annie Sweeting (2:29:28), Philippa Moorse (2:34:09) and Judy Greenwood (2:48:35).
At Harrogate Parkrun, the 20 minute barrier creeps ever closer for Dan Eagling, who finished witha n new PB of 20:16. It was also PBs for Sarah Hughan (24:32) and Kate Maybury (24:36) – well done both! Michelle Dinsdale came home in a spectacular 30:09, and is now set to smash the 30 minute barrier. Inspiring stuff.
Finally, it is an apology to Annie and Philippa for my oversight last week. When you see them next, congratulate them on tackling the 22 mile Wensleydale Wander in just over 5 hours last weekend. A fantastic achievement.
Again, I’m sure I’ll have missed something or someone from the round-up. Apologies if that’s you. Just take a leaf out of Annie’s book, and tap me on the shoulder when you see me at club.

Matt’s Birthday Curry
I’ve booked a table at the Jinnah in Harrogate for 8.45pm on Thursday 23 April, so that gives us time for a quick shower after club and the trip into town. If anyone wants to come, but hasn’t let me know, can you let me
know ASAP, or register your interest on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/events/1793891264169990/.
A Word to the Wise
“Life is complicated. Running is simple. Is it any wonder that people like to run?”
Have a good week, everyone.
