Sessay Swift

img_1212First race mentioned this week is this fast and flat 6k race near Thirsk. We had an impressive 21 runners make the trip to Sessay, and first over the line for the club and 8th overall was Matt Wilkinson, in a time of 21:13. He was followed by Alex Patrickson in 21:33, then Adam Kirk in 22:26 and Jamie Dilasser in 23:16. Carol Morgan was the first Nidd lady over the line, and 3rd lady overall in a time of 25:00, with Phil Ventress soon after in 26:12. Damien Handslip finished in 26:17, Brian Hainsworth 26:39, Christina Taylor 29:16, Sarah Hughan 30:02 (first race after returning from injury), Kaye Kent 30:15, with Moira Mctague and Nadene Wilkinson both crossing the line in 30.17. Debbie Gibson finished in 30:37, then Jeff Walker in 32:03, Michelle Smith 33:26, Jane Hill 33:47, Fiona Robinson 36:30. Rounding off the magnificent display by the club, Graham Hyde was next in 36:50, Robert Hill in 46:07, and Rebecca Ventress in 46:08. Another great performance by all involved…

The Chevin Revving

For those who didn’t fancy running on flat tarmac (let’s face it, we’ve all been there), there was another type of race on offer the same night as Sessay. We sent three runners over to The Chevin at Otley to take part in this 6.5 mile self-guided trail race. There were some spectacular views to take in on this fine evening, and first back for Nidd Valley (and 16th overall out of 134 starters!!) was Alex Robinson in an impressive 54:31 (the full results don’t seem to be up online yet – all this info is coming from my covert fell running source who may or may not be Phil Robinson) Mark David was next in 43rd positon overall, and ‘Fell Running’ Phil Robinson finished in 62:22, 44th overall.

Mark David has also taken part in several other fell type races over the last couple of weeks:

The Gribdale Gallop at Great Ayton in the North Yorkshire Moors is 9.1km with a couple of hundred metres of climbing, which includes a blast up to the summit of Roseberry Topping. Mark finished in a time of 57:23.
Next on his calendar was The Gargrave Show on 19th August. This ever popular annual proper Yorkshire agricultural show incorporates loads of events including egg throwing and terrier racing, and of course 5 different fell races welcoming runners of all ages. Mark finished in 37:14, but the full results have not been published online yet.
The most recent race Mark took part in was the Tour of Norland Moor, near to Halifax. It’s a 12k route with about 800ft climbing so I imagine it was a bit cheeky. There were 140 runners taking part, and Mark was 68th overall in a time of 1:09:14. Well done Mark….

Parkrun

We love a good parkrun at Nidd Valley. It seems that the majority of us were running at Harrogate again, and there are couple of PB’S worth a mention. Firstly, Matt Wilkinson got himself his fastest time yet on The Stray and finished in 5th place overall in a time of 17:49. Also stealing a new PB was Sylvia Morten with a great time of 29:57 – brilliant running!

It appears that Norwich was the furthest that NVRR have ventured out this week for a parkrun. Ben Rosie, a NVRR junior running in the JM 11 – 14 category, finished 193rd out of 479 runners in a time of 25:04. Well done Ben, keep up the hard work!

That’s all I have for now unless anyone tells me about some other race they have snuck in under the radar…..

Great running once again, all the best for this coming Sunday’s race at Tholthorpe – it’s fairly flat and fast from what I can remember…
Thanks

Jonathan.
